Getting Started With Autographed Soccer Memorabilia

Posted under soccer equipment

Having a collection of autographed soccer memorabilia has long been a way of proving your loyalty and passion to the sport. If you’re interested in starting your own collection, here are several tips to ensure that you’ll not only have an easy time collecting

How to Obtain Autographed Soccer Memorabilia

There are two ways for you to obtain autographed soccer memorabilia: you can have the soccer gear or equipment signed by the athlete with your own effort, or you can purchase one that has already been autographed.

It’s certainly more affordable to work for your own autographed soccer memorabilia by yourself, but your main problem would be finding ample opportunity to approach your favorite soccer player and get his autograph. You will also have to work on getting a certificate of authenticity for your memorabilia in the event that you’d wish to sell it for a profit.

Purchasing autographed soccer memorabilia is easier, naturally, but more expensive as well. You also run the risk of buying from fraudulent sellers selling fake autographed soccer memorabilia.

Types of Autographed Soccer Memorabilia

Photographs – These can be photographs of the athlete himself or a scene from a particular soccer game containing the necessary signature. Photographs may be something you’ve taken by yourself, purchased, or won. If it’s a group photo, consider having it enlarged so that all the signatures of the members making up your favorite soccer team can easily fit its surface.

Soccer Ball – These can be either purchased or obtained at your own effort as well. If you’re going to have a soccer ball signed by your favorite players, invest in the best soccer ball you can purchase: one that has the words “FIFA approved” or “official size or weight” imprinted on them. Make sure to have a dark-colored soft tip marker ready for the signatures because it writes well on soccer balls and is easily visible. When you have completed the signatures, place it inside a glass or see-through container for safekeeping.

Soccer Shoes – Many sports brands nowadays produce clothing, gear, and equipment under the name of famous players; the same thing applies to soccer as well. If your favorite soccer player has his own line of shoes then it would be ideal to have him affix his signature on his own product. Since shoes don’t have much writing space in them, they are usually good for a maximum of three signatures.

Soccer Wear – These are what make up a complete soccer outfit: soccer top, shorts, and socks. A soccer shirt or uniform serves as one of the best types of autographed soccer memorabilia because it allows the players and coaches to write as long as they want.

Gloves – These are worn only by goalkeepers, so you can generally expect only signatures from popular goalkeepers to appear on gloves. Again, autographed soccer memorabilia of this type can be purchased or obtained through personal effort.

Shin Guards – While shoes, uniforms, and soccer balls make up the bulk of autographed soccer memorabilia, it’s very rare that you’ll find a famous signature written on shin guards. Thus, this type of memorabilia is usually obtained by personal effort.

As a last warning: make sure that you are truly purchasing from a trusted and reliable source especially if the transaction will be processed online. Be careful about using your credit card, and never allow payments to be handled by any website you haven’t checked the Better Business Bureau with.

Champions League Final preview

Posted under current soccer

No two clubs around the world sell more replica jerseys than Manchester United and Barcelona so by this fact alone, the final of this seasons Champions League is promising to be a huge affair that the whole world will be interested in. It is true that if you asked many soccer fans throughout the season who their ideal soccer final would be, it would be involving these two teams. This because both have been responsible for some of the most exciting soccer played this year and both have just wrapped up their respective league titles. As tens of thousands of soccer fans look to descend upon Rome for the final and many more watch around the world, the anticipation for the match looks set to make it one of the most hyped up games of all time, lets just hope it can match its billing.

In a game where both teams will think they have a great chance of winning, Manchester United probably start favourites, which is fair enough given they are current holders of the Champions League and are World Club champions. No team has retained the Champions League since the tournament evolved from the European Cup so United would be looking to make a little bit of history. The club wrote a new chapter in their own history recently when their 18th league title took them level with Liverpool with regards to the amount of times both clubs have won the top flight in England. Yes, the famous red soccer jerseys have been at the forefront of English soccer and next season promises to be another cracker with United looking to go beyond Liverpool. Sir Alex Ferguson would love that and so would Wayne Rooney.

Although the vast majority of the squad at United have Champions League winners medals, this game is special as it may be the last for some players. The talk of Carlos Tevez leaving has risen louder and Rome may be last hurrah in a United soccer kit. There has also been a lot of talk about Ronaldo moving to Real Madrid where he will swap the Red Devils for the pristine white soccer kit of Madrid and no doubt he will want to leave on a high and prevent Barcelona from clinching a treble, which has never been managed in Spain before.

So, there is a lot riding on Barcelona in the final and it would give them a tremendous opportunity to get one over Real Madrid so the Barca fans will be imploring their world famous blue and red soccer tops are the ones celebrating at the end of the match. The strike power shown by Barcelona this season has been devastating with Messi, Henry and Eto’o notching over 100 goals between them. This is more than most soccer clubs manage in a season, never mind three players which just goes to show how clinical their finishing has been at times.

Barcelona have not been solid at the back though and injuries and suspensions are set to weaken their backline even further for the Champions League final. This gives many people the impression that Manchester United will be the team more likely to score because for all that Barcelona are impressive up front, United are as equally strong at the back. The same can’t be said the other way around and this is what makes some people believe that Barca have the edge.

Of course, on the night, the game is very much up for grabs and only one set of fans will be cheering come the end of the game but lets just hope the soccer on show lives up to the pre-match billing.

JOZY ALTIDORE, STRIKER, USA National Soccer Team

Posted under current soccer

An uncommonly powerful striker, Altidore has been tipped by many as the United States’ answer to the retirement of former icon Brian McBride. With roots in the francophone Caribbean nation of Haiti, Jozy, still just 19, began his professional career with a bang in the domestic top flight, Major League Soccer, with 15 goals in 37 appearances over two seasons for the New York Red Bulls.

The players’ power, nose for goal and ability to bring those around him into the game and disrupt opposition defences was soon attracting the attention of one of Europe’s top talent assessors, former Villarreal manager and current Real Madrid boss Manuel Pellegrini. The Chilean tactician wasted no time bringing young Jozy to Spain’s La Liga (Villarreal) at the start of the 2008 season for a reported 10 million USD, making the player the biggest-ever signing from MLS. He opened his scoring account against Athletic Bilbao in early November to become the first American ever to score a goal in Spain’s ultra-competitive top flight.

Unfortunately for Altidore, he was sent out on loan to second division leaders Xerez in January of 2009 and found it difficult to secure significant playing time. However, his contributions to the US senior national team – after a glittering career at youth and Olympic level – have been significant and consistent. Making his first cap in November 2007, the physically imposing striker has since moved himself into the reckoning in attack during qualifying for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™, scoring three against Trinidad and Tobago in April 2009 to become the youngest ever hat-trick hero in US history.
