I believe that Zidane did what a lot of men would do if an opponent was being rude and you were in an stressful situation especially since both teams were tied. He was angry but he should have taken the time to think about what he was going to do and ignored it until the gam was over and then confronted Materazzi. But because his thoughtless actions, France lost the game.

1) you’re comparing an attacking midfielder to a defender. You do not do that. That is like someone comparing cristiano ronaldo to john terry. two completely different playing styles.
2) Zidane is a great player, he just ended his career so poorly it disgraced his name. There is no fighting in soccer.
3) If France was better than Italy then they would have won. They would have more than 1 world cup trophy and they would have qualified in more tournaments then Italy.
